January's special focus was
Ian Boddy

Ian Boddy is a veteran of the European electronic music scene since the late 70s.   This UK based sonic explorer has produced 13 CDs on his Something Else Records label.   Then he started a new label, DiN, where he has released two more solo CDs, six collaborations, and CDs by other artists.

Emerging from the post Tangerine Dream generation, Boddy has carved out a distinctive position as an independent composer and performer releasing music around the world.   With each successive title, Boddy has won acclaim and plaudits from fans and critics alike, for the cinematic vision and architectural scale of his music.   His reputation has grown as a producer and composer and is now running DiN, his new record label.

Ian was the Special Focus once before in December, 1998.

February's special focus was on the musician members of the
Ambient@hyperreal Mailing List
which is part of
Link to Hyperreal Mailing Lists

Click on the name above to go directly to the Ambient@hyperreal page.

Hyperreal is a resource and a home on the Internet for information and activies surrounding the memes of music, dance, art, altered states of consciousness, and experimental ways of expressing those memes over the wires.   This is a home for projects involving topics and ideas that don't have an appropriate home on an educational server or tied in with any company.

The AMBIENT MUSIC Mailing List, part of the Hyperreal music resources, is intended for information sharing and having discussions pertaining to all forms of ambient music; from Brian Eno's Ambient series to environmental sound effects recordings; from The Orb's ambient dub to Jim O'Rourke's ambient industrial drones.   Originally conceptualized by Eno as "sonic wallpaper," the word ambient as a musical term has come in recent years to embrace a very diverse range of artists and influences.   Consequently, the ambient scene seems polarized, with fans of one style of ambient music rejecting or remaining ignorant of other styles.   It is hoped that the Ambient Music mailing list will foster among its subscribers appreciation, respect, or at the very least increased exposure to the huge ever growing musical genre that is controversially tagged, "Ambient."

Many of the list's members are musicians.   Twice, they have organized compilations of their music.   Each times resulted in a two-CD set.   This month, Galactic Travels™ focuses on these two double-CD compilations.

March's special focus was
Link to Zero Ohms' web site
Click on the logo to visit the artist's web site.

The Tao of Zero Ohms (literally: way of no resistance) is to listen while letting go.   Music possesses the capacity for awakening a deeper part of ourselves which lies within.   Zero Ohms (Richard J. Roberts) is driven to find this bountiful experience with open eyes, ears, and heart, seeking to find himself and the golden thread of truth within.   From this, he is compelled into expression.   A writer, painter, musician, teacher and producer, Roberts uses a range of instrumentation; woodwinds from around the world and electronics in a versatile palette of sonic colors.   His sound is at once ancient and contemporary.

For the listener, the golden thread can be more easily discovered via the clarion music of Richard J. Roberts.   To him, the way is clear; to listen while letting go.   This is The Tao of Zero Ohms.

The Mojave 2003 Demo is a four CDR box set from Ricochet Dream Records that documents the raw recordings made during the Ricochet Gathering held at Nipton, California, USA, in April of 2003.   Sadly, this limited edition of 50 copies is sold out.   But you will be able to hear the magic of the Ricochet Gathering event each week this month as each disc from the box set in turn will be the Featured CD at Midnight.
