The Special Focus for March was
ZERO OHMS
Photo
Click on the name, photo, or logo above to visit the artist's website.

Zero Ohms is Richard Roberts from one of my favorite places, Western North Carolina, the mountains! Richard plays wind-controlled synthesizers and over 50 various flutes, saxes, and other woodwinds. A writer, painter, musician, teacher, producer, and Grammy-nominated recording artist, Richard follows what he has termed "the Tao of Zero Ohms" or literally the way of no resistance.

Zero Ohms is to listen while letting go. Music possesses the capacity for awakening a deeper part of ourselves which lies within. Zero Ohms is driven to find this bountiful experience with open eyes, ears, and heart, seeking to find himself and the golden thread of truth within. From this, he is compelled into expression. Richard uses a range of instrumentation; woodwinds from around the world and electronics, in a versatile palette of sonic colors. His sound is at once ancient and contemporary.

The Special Focus for April was
JUTA TAKAHASHI
Photo
Click on the name, photo, or logo above to visit the artist's website.

JUTA TAKAHASHI was born in Miyagi, Japan in 1959 and spent his childhood in Aomori. As a teen, he was strongly influenced by Progressive Rock and synthesizer music. He went to Tokyo for school and his career as a musician started afterward. Although he started as a guitarist and played music in the style of King Crimson that valued improvisation, he gradually devoted himself to electronic music. He now resides in Sendai, Miyagi and is independently producing music using synthesizers and computers. Influenced by electronic/ambient musicians such as Brian Eno, Harold Budd, Vangelis, and the late Pete Namlook, his music is basically beautiful, calm, emotional and melodious. Sometimes aggressive sounds reminiscent of his musical roots are used. Since Juta-san prefers analog instruments over digital ones, his works are characterized by the former. His music composition method is based upon improvisation. His first commercial album was released in August, 2007.

JOHAN AGEBJÖRN
Photo
Click on the name, photo, or logo above to visit the artist's website.

Johan Agebjörn lives in Lund, Sweden, and studies psychology. He's a father who makes music from time to time.

His ambient music could be described as "ambient electro" or "arctic ambient" and is not too dissimilar from Krister Linder (Sweden) and early Biosphere (Norway) i.e. ambient with electro beats, giving the music a rich atmosphere as well as a distinct move forward in a sci-fi kind of way.

Influences include Biosphere, Aphex Twin, Autechre, Kraftwerk, The KLF, Future Sound of London, Krister Linder, Derrick May, Pete Namlook, Laurent Garnier, early Moby, Erik Satie, and Claude Debussy.

FORREST SMITHSON
Photo

Click on the name, photo, or logo above to visit the artist's website.

Forrest Smithson is an American composer from Northern California, most known for his acclaimed catalogue of Ambient Electronic compositions.

A lifelong musician, Smithson creates masterful excursions into new territories of lyrical, harmonically unique, modern musical textures and atmospheres. Forrest’s musical creations emerge from a natural affinity for embracing diverse elements and variables of sound, holding them in awareness as a unified event, creating sonic presentations of wholeness within form.

Forrest has long nurtured a deep musical connection. A student of many influences, from avant-garde, film music, modernist electro-acoustic music, to medieval and early music, his music is colored with elements necessary to bring diverse qualities into a unified expression.

In recent years, the musical expression of the inner growth occurring in his own life came into very clear focus, resulting in eight recent commercial releases.

Smithson’s work has been a Top 10 album on Zone Music Reporter (ZMR) and nominated for best ambient album both on ZMR and on One World Music. His music is regularly played on highly regarded shows such as Hearts of Space, Spotify, Echoes, Sirius XM's Spa, Star's End, Ultima Thule, and, of course, Galactic Travels™

The Special Focus for August was
ORIGO SOUND
Click on the name above to visit the label's website.

Origo Sound was a Norwegian label focusing on ambient, downtempo and electronica. Most of the artists are from Norway. Harald Lervik formed the label in 1990. The company merged with the Estonian retailer Planet Origo in 2007.

Lervik formed the label was taken after Tormod Opedal, an employee in Lervik's software company, had decided to close his own label. Closed in 1989, Cicada had released two albums by Erik Wøllo who had a new album ready to be released. As soon as Origo Sound was formed, it launched with two albums, one being the new Wøllo album.

Over the years, Origo Sound has released albums in a variety of styles, all founded in various electronic music subgenres. The first few years were dominated by a mix of styles ranging from new-age to ethnic and techno. The mid 1990s saw some techno influenced albums, while most recently, the label moved toward ambient and experimental music. The melodic approach is also covered in the catalogue.

In 2007, Origo Sound merged with Planet Origo, an Estonian company owned by Norwegian investors, including Harald Lervik. In October that year, the label released its first CD since 2004, the sampler Planet Origo, as a warm-up to future releases. In 2013, Origo Sound was re-established as an independent, Norwegian record label.
